Mark Zampino’s interest in mushrooms began in childhood, foraging in northeastern fields and forests, finding wild-growing edible mushrooms as both some sort of nature’s magic and quite delicious! His fascination was initially driven by his love of finding free tasty mushrooms in nature to eat, but in his early twenties he began learning and researching about possible medical and health benefits involving mushrooms, fueling a desire to learn how to cultivate certain species other than the typical button or portabello mushrooms one might see in a store. After years of research, acquiring equipment, trial and error, learning and growing as a hobbyist, Mark met Craig through their common interests in billiards, plants, animals and nature.

Craig Trover is a licensed architect and designer, specializing in ornamental and custom metal fabrication. Craig inherited a maternal green thumb, and with a love for plants and nature had already purchased land with plans of a tree farm, nursery and gardens when he met Mark playing billiards in New Smyrna Beach. With multiple common interests between the two, including growing fresh, healthy foods, Florungus formed organically in 2025 in New Smyrna Beach, FL.
